How Much Does an Outdoor Sauna Cost in 2026? Real Prices, Added Up

Outdoor sauna cost in 2026: our real prices for Canadian Timber sauna kits, heaters and Sweaty Yeti sauna houses, plus base, electrical and running costs, added up.

The short answer: an outdoor sauna cost in 2026 runs from about $7,200 for a complete four-person cedar sauna kit with electric heater to roughly $11,320 for the largest barrel with a WiFi heater. That is the price of the sauna and heater together, shipped free to your curb in the lower 48. A finished, insulated sauna house that arrives ready to use costs more: $29,700 to $55,200 in our range, heater included. On top of either come a base and an electrician, which add a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on your yard.

Most price guides online mix kit saunas, custom builds and infrared cabins into one wide range. So this guide does something simpler. First, it lists the actual prices we charge for Canadian Timber saunas by Dundalk LeisureCraft and for Sweaty Yeti sauna houses, then adds the other costs you will meet before the first session. Nothing here is an estimate from a calculator. Instead, every sauna and heater price is our current list price.

Outdoor sauna cost by model: our current prices

All models below are built from Eastern White Cedar and ship as pre-cut kits with assembly videos. In addition, each one carries a 5-year residential limited manufacturer warranty. However, prices are for the sauna only, because the heater is sold separately so you can choose wood or electric.

Model Shape Seats Price
MiniPOD Raindrop pod 4 $5,956.50
Harmony Barrel 4 $5,976.50
Granby, Palmer, Georgian Cabin see product page $6,136.50 to $7,646.50
Elation Barrel, flat floor 4 $6,975.50
Luna Rounded cabin 4 $7,391.50
Serenity, Tranquility Barrel 5 to 6 up to $8,219.50
Avalon Cabin, three bench tiers 3 to 4 $11,344.50

So a four-person sauna starts just under $6,000. The six-person Tranquility tops the barrel range at $8,219.50, and the three-tier Avalon is $11,344.50. Also, curbside freight anywhere in the lower 48 is included in these prices. For the full delivery process, read how sauna delivery works.

The heater: $1,211 to $3,956

The heater is the second line in any outdoor sauna cost, and it is the one people forget. We carry four options:

Which one fits depends mainly on your room volume and your habits. For example, the Luna is electric only, while the barrels and the MiniPOD take either type. If you want to preheat from your phone on the way home, the DROP is the one. If you want no electrical work at all, the TimberGlow is the one. Still unsure? Then read how to choose between wood-fired and electric heat, or call us with your model.

Finished sauna houses: $29,700 to $55,200

Kits are the low-cost route. If you would rather skip assembly, Sweaty Yeti builds finished, insulated sauna houses to order at Irontown Modular in Utah. Every Sweaty Yeti sauna includes a HUUM Steel electric heater (or equivalent), so there is no separate heater line.

Model People What is extra Price
Sweaty Yeti Sauna 4 to 6 Sauna only, 8' x 9' $29,700
Sauna Plus 6 to 8 Changing room $46,400
Sauna Max 8 to 12 Large sauna room, 8' x 17' $46,900
Sauna Fit 4 to 6 Workout room $47,200
Sauna Plunge 4 to 6 Cold plunge room with chiller tub $51,700
Sauna Plus Barrel Plunge 6 to 8 Barrel cold plunge with chiller $55,200

Delivery works differently from the kits. Each unit takes about 8 weeks to build and is set in place by the delivery crew. The first 250 miles of transport from Spanish Fork, Utah are included. Additional miles are quoted at $3.50 per mile and confirmed in writing before production starts. You still provide the foundation, permits and electrical connection, so the base and electrical costs below apply here too.

Base and electrical: the part of the outdoor sauna cost we do not sell

Two more items come from local trades, so we can only give you ranges from published guides. So get two written quotes before you order the sauna.

A level base

Every Canadian Timber sauna needs a level, solid surface: a gravel pad, pavers or a concrete slab. Because a barrel sits on cradles, gravel or pavers usually do the job. One published sample budget puts a gravel pad or small slab at about $400. Sun Home's installation guide gives a wider range of $200 to $2,000 for base preparation, depending on the site. Finally, the base diagram with the minimum size is on each product page.

A dedicated 240V circuit

First of all, electric heaters need a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. The same Sun Home guide estimates $500 to $1,500 for that work when the panel is close. However, a detached outdoor run of 25 to 75 feet with trenching and conduit can reach $1,500 to $3,800 or more, according to Topture's cost data. In other words, the distance from your panel to the sauna matters more than the heater you pick. A wood-burning stove skips this line entirely, but it needs a chimney kit and clearances instead.

Three real examples, added up

Here is how the outdoor sauna cost comes together for three typical setups. The sauna and heater prices are ours. The base and electrical figures use the low and high ends of the ranges above.

  • Compact electric: MiniPOD $5,956.50 + Harvia KIP $1,211 + base about $400 + electrician $500 to $1,500. Total: roughly $8,100 to $9,100.
  • Off-grid wood-fired: Harmony $5,976.50 + TimberGlow 14 from $2,339 + base about $400. Total: roughly $8,700, plus the chimney kit and its installation.
  • Design-led with app control: Luna $7,391.50 + Huum DROP from $3,097 + base about $400 + electrician $500 to $1,500. Total: roughly $11,400 to $12,400.

Of course, freight is already inside these numbers. Assembly is not, because most owners build the kit themselves with a helper in a day. If you hire a handyman instead, add a day of local labor.

What it costs to run

Above all, electricity is the main running outdoor sauna cost. A 6 kW heater at the typical US rate of $0.17 per kWh uses about $1.02 for one hour at full power. Because the thermostat cycles the elements, a real session usually costs a little less. So four sessions a week come to roughly $4 to $5 in power. Wood-fired saunas trade that bill for firewood and the time to light the fire. Cedar needs no sealing to survive outdoors, although many owners clean and oil the benches once a year. Our cedar maintenance guide covers the routine. For the rate in your state, see outdoor sauna electricity cost by state.

Where the outdoor sauna cost hides

Even so, a few things catch first-time buyers:

  • Permits. Small outdoor structures often fall under the permit threshold, but the 240V connection may still need an inspection. Check with your building department first.
  • Panel capacity. If your panel is full, a service upgrade can cost more than the heater. An electrician can tell you in ten minutes.
  • The crate. A Canadian Timber kit weighs between about 1,044 and 1,526 lbs depending on the model, and the driver leaves it at the curb. Plan two helpers or a dolly.
  • Accessories. A bucket, ladle, thermometer and sand timer are not in the box. Our sauna accessories start with the Starter package at $98.

Is an outdoor sauna worth the money?

Mostly, the outdoor sauna cost pays off depending on how often you will use it. A $9,000 setup used four times a week for ten years works out to about $4.30 per session before power. Used once a month, the same sauna costs about $75 per session. In short, frequency decides the value, which is also why convenience matters so much when you choose the heater. If you are weighing a barrel against a cabin, our outdoor sauna collection lists every model side by side. You can also shop by size: 4 person outdoor saunas or 6 person and larger. Want cold too? See sauna and cold plunge.
